Peirce Engineering, prepared designs for the temporary excavation support systems required for staged reconstruction of Richmond Street, four Conrail bridges, 3 permanent retaining walls, and the Philadelphia Water Department Somerset Street Interceptor Chamber. Designs up to 27 feet high included battered and cantilevered soldier beam and timber lagging, tiedback soldier beam and timber lagging, and tiedback, steel sheet piling. Designs were complicated by the tight clearances between shoring, existing railroad tracks, and proposed structures, multiple construction stages, and Cooper E80 railroad surcharge loads.
